Storyboarding

  • The American Horror Story opening titles consist of rapidly changing straight cut edits, which produces a confusing, 'jumpy' result.  This would be perfect for our opening, as we are portraying the life of a person with a disturbed mind, and this erratic form of editing would reflect well on this.
  • For our sequence, however, we will display a sequence of events, rather than a series of different images.
  • I storyboarded an example of how we would use the techniques of Kyle Cooper in our opening sequence.

  • One idea that we have, is that we will show the killer travelling through their house, and throughout this journey, evidence of their murders can be seen (bloodstains on walls, etc).
  • In this mini storyboard, the audience can see the killer flicking through a notebook.  On each page is information about their past and future victims.
  • The killer stops on the page of their next victim.  A picture of the victim is taped down to the page.  The shot then flickers between the picture of the victim alive, then of the victim dead, and then alive again.
This method of editing would be effective, as it tells the audience about the killer's actions, as well as reflecting on the erratic, unstable mind of the killer.
